History

One of the main areas of activity of "Azerpost" LLC, operating under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, is the issuance and circulation of State Postal Payment Signs (SPPS) – including postage stamps, stamped envelopes, and postal cards. Additionally, the company produces blocks, miniature sheets, booklets, postal stamp impressions, and other items considered collectibles by philatelists. The product range also includes postcards, various souvenirs, and more.

The history of postage stamps in the independent Republic of Azerbaijan dates back to 1919. In June of that year, the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic decided to issue postage stamps, with the first stamps entering circulation on October 20. From 1920 to 1923, stamps of the Transcaucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic were used within Azerbaijan, and from 1923 to 1992, Soviet postage stamps were in circulation. In 1992, the first stamps of modern sovereign Azerbaijan began to be issued.

Products issued by "Azerpost" LLC reflect Azerbaijan's rich history, culture, the cultural and historical heritage of the country’s ethnic groups, the lives of prominent figures, significant events both domestically and internationally, as well as the country's diverse flora and fauna. Special attention is given to both artistic design and the application of new technologies in printing.

The stamp department of "Azerpost" actively participates in both local and international exhibitions. Such events are of exceptional importance for experience exchange, promoting Azerbaijani stamps globally, and enhancing the country’s image.

One of the leading activities of "Azerpost" is the development of Azerbaijani philately and its adaptation to modern requirements. In this regard, there is close cooperation between the company and the Azerbaijan Philatelists’ Union.
