In honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Azerbaijan's National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan, an exhibition of Azerbaijani postage stamps was opened at the administrative building of the Jordan Post State Company. The event was organized through the initiative of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Jordan and supported by Azerpost LLC in collaboration with the Jordan Post State Company.

The opening ceremony began with the national anthems of both countries and was attended by Sami Dawood, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Post State Company and former State Minister, Jalil Tannous, Chairman of the Jordanian Philatelists’ Union, heads of diplomatic missions from friendly countries, local philatelists, and journalists.

In his speech, Ambassador Eldar Salimov provided detailed information about the rich history reflected in Azerbaijani postage stamps, noting that their historical roots trace back to the Safavid era. He highlighted that the first national stamp was issued in 1919, during the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the Muslim East. The ambassador also spoke extensively about the efforts made in this field.

Discussing Azerbaijan-Jordan relations, the ambassador recalled that the foundation of friendship and cooperation between the two countries was laid during the historic meeting between Heydar Aliyev and King Al-Hussein bin Talal at the Islamic Summit in Casablanca in December 1994. He emphasized that these relations have since been further strengthened by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The speakers also stressed Azerbaijan's rich history and traditions in the field of postage stamps and expressed interest in establishing bilateral cooperation in this area.

Following the speeches, the red ribbon marking the official opening of the exhibition was cut at the Jordan Post Museum. Guests were introduced to postage stamps dedicated to National Leader Heydar Aliyev's life and legacy, Victory Day, the “Iron Fist” operation, and Azerbaijan's liberated cities. They also viewed photographs depicting meetings between Heydar Aliyev and King Al-Hussein bin Talal, as well as current heads of state.

The “Heydar Aliyev 100” and “Shusha 270” stamps attracted significant interest and were presented to participants as commemorative gifts.
