Event Held to Mark the 30th Anniversary of the “Contract of the Century” and Oil Workers Day

On September 20, 2024, an event marking the 30th anniversary of the "Contract of the Century" and Oil Workers Day was held at the Gulustan Palace.
State officials, along with representatives from local and foreign companies, attended the event.
SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf then read the text of a congratulatory letter from President Ilham Aliyev addressed to the oil workers.
Speaking at the event, SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev on behalf of the oil workers for his efforts in developing the oil and gas industry and for the continuous support provided to the oil workers.
Rovshan Najaf stated that the "Contract of the Century," signed under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern Azerbaijan and the author of the country’s energy strategy, laid the foundation for the successes achieved in the oil and gas industry. He emphasized that the contract also created a favorable basis for the continuous and sustainable socio-economic progress of Azerbaijan and the strengthening of its international standing.
bp's Executive Vice President for Production and Operations, Gordon Birrell, expressed his deep honor in participating in the event celebrating Oil Workers Day and the 30th anniversary of the signing of the “Agreement On the Joint Development and Production Sharing of the Azeri, Chirag fields, and Deep-Water Portion of the Gunashli Field" in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Birrell highlighted that, due to the significant successes since September 20, 1994, Azerbaijan has risen to become one of the world's major oil producers and a global energy supplier.
Gordon Birrell spoke about the significant role the Azeri, Chirag, and Gunashli fields play in ensuring the energy security of millions of people. He emphasized that this Agreement not only supports Azerbaijan's economic prosperity but also benefits the entire region.
Later, a sealing ceremony was held to launch postage stamps dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the "Contract of the Century," a joint initiative of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and SOCAR. The stamps were sealed by Rovshan Najaf, President of SOCAR; Javid Gurbanov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport; Gordon Birrell, bp's Executive Vice President for Production and Operations; and Gary Jones, bp's Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye.
