A side event on using postal networks to impact global freight emissions was organized within the framework of COP 29
The event was held with the participation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), considered a regulator and participant in the global postal system, the Technology and Logistics Division of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the COP representation of the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Climate Action and Clean Air Division of the International Maritime Organization, the Transport Directorate of the World Bank, as well as "Azerpost" LLC, the only national postal operator of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The event, titled "Climate Value Chain in Postal Operations: Global Focus on Freight", mainly discussed the environmental impact of freight transport, managing freight emissions, and supporting climate-related measures.
In conclusion, raising awareness within the postal ecosystem, applying technological and operational innovations, launching investment initiatives, and sharing best practices were identified by the participants as essential measures to achieve positive results and support climate conditions.
In his speech, the acting Chairman of the Management Board of "Azerpost" LLC, Isi Mustafayev, mentioned that the organization has optimized postal routes to reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption and has implemented digital solutions to reduce paper consumption in its sorting center.
Additionally, "Azerpost" LLC presented a COP29 postage stamp, made entirely from recycled paper and dedicated to COP29's mission. The stamp was officially sealed by event participants, symbolizing "Azerpost" LLC's operational and symbolic contribution to the event.
