The Universal Postal Union highly appreciated the initiative of Azerbaijan to issue a jubilee stamp
On February 1-2, a series of events on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) were held in Bern, the capital of Switzerland.
The postal operators of the UPI member countries who participated in the significant events had the opportunity to get acquainted with the history of postal services.
The commemorative stamp prepared on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the UPU on the initiative of "Azerpost" LLC was sealed and put into circulation on February 1 in the presence of Masahiko Metoki, Director General of the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, and Fuad Iskenderov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Swiss Confederation and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Azerbaijan stamps was the only stamps sealed during this event.
Masahiko Metoki expressed deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for this initiative. He noted that the postage stamp in question is already a part of the history of UPU.
Stamp booklets were presented to the guests as gifts and the opportunity to use the "First Day" stamp was provided for them.
Khayyam Alizade, a member of the Board of Directors of "Azerpost" LLC, and Sitara Huseynova, the head of the Stamp Department, also participated in the event.
It should be noted that the Universal Postal Union, founded in 1874 and headquartered in Bern, is the second oldest international organization in the world and serves as the main platform for cooperation between participants in the postal sector.
