Ambassador: Releasing Postage Stamp on the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is a great gesture of Azerbaijan to India
Presentation of the postage stamp which released on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the political and spiritual leader of India, world-famous politician and philosopher Mahatma Gandhi, held in Baku on July 26. The ceremony was attended by Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bavitlung Vanlalvavna, Director of Azermarka LLC under the Ministry of Transport, Communication and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan Leyla Gulaliyeva, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Azerbaijani government officials, civil society and members of the Indian community in Baku.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Vanlalvavna thanked the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technology and Azermarka for bestowing a great honor on Mahatma Gandhi. He said that this kind gesture of the Azerbaijani government will reinforce the strong historical and cultural bonds that exist between India and Azerbaijan.
In her turn, Director of Azermarka, Ms. Leyla Gulaliyeva emphasized that over 90 other countries have released postage stamps on Mahatma Gandhi during 71 years that passed since his death: “Today, on July 26, 2019, Azerbaijan joins in the list of those countries by issuing the Mahatma Gandhi-150 postage stamp.
It was noted that along with the Postage Stamp, released First Day Covers and a commemorative stamp.
Then, Mr Bavitlung Vanlalvavna and Ms Leyla Gulaliyeva have sealed First Day Covers and the commemorative stamp. Thus, Mahatma Gandhi-150 `
Stamps are made in the form of sheets (20 (5x4) stamps per sheet). The size of the stamp is 28x40 mm, the size of the sheet is 170x200 mm. Postage stamps designed by Nariman Mammadzade were printed in the Republic of Belarus by offset, with a circulation of 20,000. The number of the First Day covers – 500.
